Nabolok
Parishad is a Bengali term meaning "An Assembly for a New World." Nabolok
is a voluntary non-government organi-zation of Bangladesh. In the year of
1986 a group of dedicated citizens living in Khulna established NABOLOK to
uphold the philosophy of ensuring people's rights. Due to lack of external
funding, the members conducted social welfare activities within their
limited means. After obtaining registration in 1990, Nabolok commenced
development activities in earnest, with the assistance of national and
international donors.
Since then Nabolok
takes development as a positive change of economic, social, political,
cultural and moral aspects of human life. It empowers the powerless
through concretization and alternative institution building for liberation
of the majority of people from prejudices and exploitative mechanism of
the society that breeds poverty and injustices

The development strategy of Nabolok comprises two major components:
poverty reduction and empowerment of the marginalized male and female. In
pursuance of those objectives, the organization has given priorities to
the process of people's participation in development. Nabolok believes
that the marginalized groups mainly suffer from lack of enlightenment on
and access to resources.
Development therefore is by no
means an economic problem only. Social and other issues need to be counted
with the economic growth, and it can only be achieved by ensuring a
process of people's empowerment. One of the main components of Nabolok's
above strategy is to work as a facilitator to initiate the process by:
Making the group people
aware to assert their own rights. It requires transformation of society.
Such transformation is to be achieved by the people themselves. From this
point of view, development is an integral part of building people's
institutions.
Assisting them to be united
in a homogeneous interest group.
Preparing them so that they
can plan, control and manage their own affairs without outside assistance.
Forming a central structure
of people's institutions at Upazilla level through a democratic process,
which will supervise and develop the group to serve the ends, side by side
strengthen the local electoral body.
